Rain Fuel makes sustainable knowledge accessible by working from the ground up to create earth-positive solutions that connect and empower communities.
How Rain Fuel Projects Work
The Rain Fuel Community is a collection of sustainability organizations, environmentally-passionate individuals, and grassroots activists
Interested in creating real change related to alternative energy, sustainability, and earth-positive ideas? Discover energy independence, 'green' awareness, and empower your community by being fully immersed in do-it-yourself style sustainability development.
The knowledge, energy generating devices, and sustainable systems fostered by Rain Fuel community participants are ready to deploy solutions that create immediate and positive ecological, social, and economic returns for the community.
Rain Fuel Community Sustainability Project Opportunities:
-
Sustainable Alternative Energy
Rain Fuel makes sustainable alternative energy technology accessible by working from the ground up to show how to create solar panels, wind turbines, and biofuel using waste-stream and recycled materials.
-
Sustainable Food Systems
Rain Fuel helps communities build organic gardens, create composts systems, and creatively achieve local food security.
-
Sustainable Community Connections
Rain Fuel helps foster sustainable communities by collaborating with artists, performers, and creative outreach programs that work to raise accessibility and awareness of sustainable knowledge.
Wind Turbine Construction: feel the breeze!
Rain Fuel creates vertical axis wind turbines and horizontal axis wind generators using landfill-overrun materials and based on progressive and robust design elements. These home-grown energy generating turbines are designed to operate at wind capturing efficiency comparable to commercial models.
Scrap PVC Piping, 55 gallon plastic barrels, bamboo, junkyard excercise equipment motors: reuse of these components = effective energy generation at an incomparably low cost.
Low cost solar energy: Solar Panel Construction.
Photovoltaic solar panels for off grid electricity generation or grid tie-in. Cost aim: $1.50/watt. 60 watt photovoltaic panel at $80. Solar thermal panels for hot water generation and heating.
Solar panels are hand-built using low cost to free reclaimed materials: scrap wood and aluminum sheeting for frames, glass windows, aluminum soda/pop can arrays for heat collection, and state-of-the-art photovoltaic solar cells with factory-reject cosmetic defects.
Energy independent transportation: BioDiesel Production.
Rain Fuel is focusing on becoming a BioDiesel Coop. Any diesel vehicle can use biodiesel without conversion.
Biodiesel is produced by processing converting waste vegetable cooking oil from local restaurants into biodiesel fuel. Biodiesel emissions are substantially lower than petroleum fuels, and the entire production cycle can be localized.
Rain Fuel BioDiesel is actively implementing algae-based biofuel production methods. Biodiesel from algae produces up to 100 times as much oil-per-acre compared to conventional crop biodiesel from canola, palm, or sunflower oils.
